"I always thought that it was strange how writers could just  start at the beginning. Our lives are like diseases, they  don t just start when we develop a cough or a headache."

In this modern day Frankenstein retelling, Lindiwe has lived  her adult life with one goal: to find a cure for her mother's disease. However, when tragedy strikes and her mother  passes away, she is left with the horridly human task of navigating grief healthily. As her life spins on relentlessly without her, she tries to grab hold of who she once was

Somewhere, a monster stirs. Somewhere, there is an end- less. gray beach, and somewhere, an albatross watches.

      A modern-day retelling of Frankenstein

In this gripping modern-day retelling of Frankenstein, the story centers on Lindiwe, a woman whose life is consumed by a singular mission: finding a cure for her mother’s disease. The novel is a haunting exploration of grief, guilt, and the boundaries between life and death. The emotional weight of Lindiwe's journey is palpable, as her initial quest for understanding and curing morphs into something darker.

How do we piece together our lives after those we love are gone?

R K Orsson brilliantly weaves together familiar themes from Mary Shelley’s classic, while grounding the narrative in contemporary struggles—especially the universal difficulty of dealing with loss. Lindiwe’s grief, raw and unrelenting, transforms her story into something much more human than the original Frankenstein myth, asking: How do we piece together our lives after those we love are gone?

Great addition to the Gothic storytelling tradition!

This book is a fantastic read with its vivid writing and suspenseful twists. Orsson pays homage to Shelley's classic while diving into how how, in our modern world, we confront loss, madness, and the limits of human emotion. It's a great addition to the Gothic storytelling tradition!
