Elise Sarte has a problem. She's beginning to feel like maybe this detective thing isn't all it's cracked up to be. The deadline for her to pick her university courses is closing in, clients (paying clients, at least), appear to be a rarity, and on a night where she's just trying to have fun, she nearly gets killed by the sudden appearance of a headless horseman smashing through the building.

Now, she and Ezekiel Knox (former child detective) have to contend with rumours of demonic pasts, missing gold, and the possibility of a killer that is something far beyond the natural realm of human understanding.
